Melissa began her journey into Midwifery in the spring of 2011 by attending a DONA doula training. She began attending Birthwise Midwifery School in September of 2011 gaining both clinical and didactic experience. At Birthwise she received clinical training with both CPMs and CNMs and worked in various birth settings including hospitals, birth centers and home.
She completed her Midwifery education and preceptorship at a high volume birth center in Idaho where she got a vast amount of experience caring for individuals from menstruation to menopause. Working with a combination of CPMs and CNMs she got to see a wide range of care for both pregnant, and non-pregnant clients. In this she has witnessed what helps make a great collaborative relationship and hopes to bring that knowledge to Maine to ensure smooth, safe transitions from home to hospital.
Upon graduating from Birthwise and receiving her CPM and NHCM, Melissa opened Bayside Midwifery located in Portland, Maine. She provides preconception counseling, well-body care, collaborative care, in-home IUI, and Midwifery care for home births for clients located within an hour of Portland. She also provides home birth midwifery care for those located in New Hampshire.
